Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji is a distinguished public servant, former lawmaker, and advocate, whose career is marked by a deep commitment to education, gender equality, and community development. Her journey from an educator to a management team at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau showcases a blend of perseverance, dedication, and passion for making a difference.
Born and raised in Ogbomoso, her academic foundation was laid at Ori-Oke Baptist Primary School, and she furthered her secondary education at Igbon Gambari Community High School, where she earned her WAEC certification. Demonstrating early determination, Mrs. Oladeji pursued higher education at Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun, where she obtained a National Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1993. She then continued to expand her knowledge, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Ado-Ekiti in 2004, and later a Master’s in Library, Archival, and Information Studies (MLIS) from the University of Ibadan in 2009.
Her professional career began in academia, where she served as a librarian at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) from 1994 to 2014, a period that honed her organizational skills and intellectual discipline. However, it was in the realm of public service that she truly found her calling. Appointed as Full-Time Commissioner 1 at the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) from 2006 to 2011, Mrs. Oladeji contributed significantly to the educational policies of the state.
Her legislative career began in 2015, when she was elected to the Oyo State House of Assembly (OYHA), where she served for two consecutive terms until 2023. As a lawmaker, Mrs. Oladeji championed several progressive bills, particularly in the areas of disability rights, protection of children from sexual offences, gender-based violence, and property rights. One of her notable achievements was the successful extension of maternity leave for nursing mothers in Oyo State from three to six months, a policy change she pushed through a well-received motion.
Beyond legislation, Mrs. Oladeji has also been an active voice in shaping policies aimed at improving education, curbing social vices, and promoting family planning. Her leadership as the Chairperson of the House Committee on Women’s Affairs and Social Inclusion saw her advocating for gender equality and the welfare of marginalized groups. Additionally, she made substantial contributions as a member of committees on Education and Water Resources, reflecting her wide-ranging interests in governance and community welfare.
Her commitment to professional growth is evident through her memberships in various prestigious bodies, including the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Nigerian Library Association (NLA), American Library Association (ALA), and the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS). Over the course of her career, Mrs. Oladeji has earned numerous accolades, including the Outstanding Child-Friendly Lawmaker Award and recognition as a philanthropist for her consistent community support.
In 2023, Mrs. Oladeji was appointed Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
