Overland Airways interim-statement serious-incident OAL/2022/06/15/INTR/02

On 15th June 2022, an ATR 42-320, with nationality and registration marks 5N-BRQ
operated by Overland Airways Limited, departed Ilorin airport, Ilorin (DNIL) as a
scheduled passenger flight OLA1188, to Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos (DNMM) on
an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan. The incident flight was the eighth sector of
the day operated by the same crew. Onboard were 37 persons inclusive of two (2) cockpit
crew members, a cabin attendant and an engineer. With fuel endurance of 2 hours and 50
minutes, the Pilot was Pilot Monitoring (PM) while the Co-pilot was the Pilot Flying (PF).
At 18:54 h, OLA1188 was given startup clearance by Ilorin Air Traffic Control (ATC).
The take-off, climb, cruise and descent phases of flight were normal.
At 19:44 h, the aircraft was cleared to land runway 18R. Six minutes into descent, an
engine fire warning annunciated. The crew declared emergency and autopilot was
disengaged.
The aircraft landed safely at 19:46 h. Emergency services had been activated and
responded to the fire.
At 19:55 h, the fire had been extinguished and passengers evacuated safely with no
injuries.

ACTION
The draft final report has been compiled and ready for group review. After the general
review, draft final report will be sent to stakeholders for their substantial comments in
line with the requirement of section 6.3 of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)
Annex 13 to the Convention.
This interim report is being issued on the 2nd anniversary of the incident in accordance
with the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.
